Megan Phelps Hotter Issue Than Strippers!

Megan Phelps Makes The Front Page of The Topeka Paper

This Just In… The Associated Press just reported the following.  I found it on Phelps’ local paper so that I could read the comments… and here they are, right after the article.  My favorite is the “Phelps vs. Strip Clubs” comment!  The “Hills Have Eyes” comment comes in a close second! Marine dad must pay Phelps’ fees

March 29, 2010 – 3:17pm

BALTIMORE — Lawyers for the father of a Marine who died in Iraq say a court has ordered him to pay legal costs for the Fred Phelps-led Westboro Baptist Church anti-gay protesters from Topeka who picketed his son’s funeral.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., had won a $5 million verdict against Phelps, but it was thrown out on appeal.

On Friday, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Maryland ordered Snyder to pay the costs of Phelps’ appeal.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed earlier this month to consider whether the protesters’ provocative messages, which include phrases like “Thank God for dead soldiers,” are protected by the First Amendment.

Lawyers say Snyder already is struggling to come up with the fees associated with filing the brief with the high court.

to the Phelps’ on collecting that one. Like they did not have to pay him, he will ultimately not have to pay them. That is ridiclous that the court would even tell him to pay THEIR bills.

That’s way more than a double insult.

God’ll get you for this Phelps’, you bunch of tools of Satan.

Hopefully, someone sets up a fund to help pay for the Phelps’ ill-gotten gains, and help the family of one of America’s servicemen who died while protecting their right to spew hate against America.

Somebody better put his malpractice carrier on notice an hope his file has a letter to Mr. Albert Snyder advising him that his risks include losing and having to pay attorneys fees of the opposing party.

I never really understood

what they were doing.

TESTING their first ammenments rights? or really are they just a church group full of fanatics EXPLOITING their first ammendment rights?

I used to think they were funny. Now it is just embarrasing.

They know the law better than most of us do and they appear to be skirting the edges of it without stepping over the line. I hope the Supreme Court finds me wrong on that.

If our country cared enough about that they’d change the constitution to the pov most of us have about their behavior.

We did change the constitution to allow women to vote, blacks to vote, and so on. It can be done. We can protect free speech, while making exceptions for certain truly vile things.

But when we have problems such as those we face today, most of us want our representatives to stop bottom feeding (as they are in Topeka these days) and focus on the big problems of economics and health care reform.

While most of us think really bad things about this hate group, we should realize that many things are protected by the constitution that we revile – and generally they seem to come under the heading of free speech.

How about those very high legal fees? Is this man being raped from both directions?

I will start praying right

Submitted by Kathiejo2000 on Mon, 03/29/2010 – 3:45pm.

I will start praying right away for Phelps’ to get their come uppins! What legal fees? The whole family are lawyers and they aren’t paying any legal fees.

These people should not be allowed. Topeka should not put up with them. Let them go to a 3rd world country and start that BS.

If they don’t like our country let them go somewhere anywhere where they can do better. It would be good riddance for Topeka!!

These type of people

Submitted by sinks on Mon, 03/29/2010 – 4:08pm.
These type of people make me ashamed to say that I am from Kansas. I don’t know that much about Phelps other than the protests, but is he like upset that one of kids came out or something? I mean why is he doing this to the people who gave their lives for our country? This man is a disgrace to Kansas!

This is insane. If everyone who feels so inclined could send even one dollar to the Snyder family, it would help. I am certain there are millions of people who would send one dollar.

This is what I dont get, we are in a huge battle to get strip clubs out of kansas because they are degrading and bring a bad name to our state…. Shutting down a industry that helps single moms and college students stay off welfare and make money …. gives men and woman entertainment and something to do in this boring town… We want to run that out because its embarrassing to Kansas

But posting the phelps clan on the front page of newspaper, having them standing at funerals, or on main streets where everyone can see that, thats ok… no problem there, thats deff not embarrassing to Kansas…

Atleast a strip club, you can choose if you want to go, you can choose if you see naked woman… The Phelps clan you see them, they are right there with there bright signs

Think about the real problem think about what really needs to go to stop kansas from being a joke…

I know in some cases attorney fees can be awarded to one party or the other, but it’s usually AFTER the outcome is determined and dependent on the outcome. This almost makes it sound like the Court has pre-determined the outcome.

Common Ground

Submitted by Uncle Buck on Mon, 03/29/2010 – 4:13pm.

It would appear that virtually everyone has a common ground position where the topic of the Phelps family, and their activities are concerned. Clearly those left, right, and center have at least one topic, where we can speak with a united voice in our disapproval of what these loons do, and the black eye they give this community. How refreshing. Rare, but very refreshing.

To the left leaners, please do not latch onto this as fodder to build a fight from, this was meant as a harmless observation, not one that should invite an arguement. I hope you can agree with my statement and just leave it at that.

Use YOUR free speech.

Submitted by Chris.Love on Mon, 03/29/2010 – 4:30pm.

Courts will always uphold free speech (as they should) — even when it’s the hateful speech of the Phelps clan.

This is exactly why we hold our annual event in Gage Park to protest against Westboro. We hold a “protest” in the name of equality and love that draws hundreds of people. You can’t stop the Phelps, but you can fight back.

I hope everyone who is angered by this story will join us in Gage Park at the amphitheater on Saturday, May 1st at 2:00pm for the third annual Million “Fag” March (you can see more about the event and the name at

This year Nate Phelps will be speaking to the crowd. He is an ex-WBC member, and the son of Fred Phelps.

It’s all completely free. Just make up a sign, or a t-shirt, or whatever else you want, and show up on May 1st and help us fight the hate.

LCpl Snyder

I cannot believe this is going on. I knew Snyder and I know we sacrifice so that people have freedom of speech and all sorts of other freedoms. However, this situation just does not seem to be right. I hate the fact that I have to pass these people fairly often and know they are still hurting his family and friends. Someone please help his family or start a support group to help them.

Thank you all for your support,

I will personally escort the man to hell myself, where he can sit in the lava pool with Hitler. if they can’t appreciate the men and women who have died for them to have the right to be blithering idiots, then they should have those rights stripped away! send them to the war zone! let’s see if they die, or change their tune.

These people need money to travel all over this country to protest. I realize it would take awhile but if people quit feeding them by using them as attorneys the well would dry up.

I suppose they could send the kids back out on the street to sell candy but with enough community involvement they wouldn’t sell much.

If they use freedom of speech to spread hate why can’t we use it to tell people who might not know what they are about.

Yes, it would take some real coordination but why couldn’t there be people outside of their office with signs?

Yes, they know the law but so do other lawyers in this town. Maybe if their clients had to dodge signs stating what kind of people they are they would find other attorneys.

We could use the sidewalk outside of their office just like they use the sidewalks outside of funerals.

Face it, nothing has worked with these people. I hid their signs with cardboard at the funeral for 3 children and these people are full of hate but I really believe with enough involvement we could at least put a dent in their bank accounts.
